Investigate The "Accidental" Bird Killing Policy

Dear Rep. Huffman,

As the chair of the House Subcommittee on Waters, Oceans, and Wildlife, you have the power to investigate the reasons for the Fish and Wildlife Service's radical weakening of its policy for prosecuting companies and individuals responsible for "accidentally" killing birds protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

We encourage you to open a full probe and hold hearings on the service's decision to say, as its guiding memo puts it, "A person who destroys a structure such as a barn knowing that it is full of baby owls in nests is not liable for killing them."

Sincerely,
