Tell President Obama To Put KXL Away for Good

Recently in Iowa, Secretary Clinton announced her opposition to the Keystone XL Pipeline because it's, "a distraction from the important work we have to do on climate change." But Clinton can't stop KXL because she isn't currently in office -- only President Obama can deny this dirty and dangerous pipeline right now.

Pope Francis, while visiting the White House, also praised the president for taking steps to cut greenhouse gas emissions and said, "climate change is a problem which can no longer be left to a future generation." While papal recognition must be nice, only President Obama can reverse the "all of the above" energy policy that includes Arctic drilling and tar sand pipelines.

It's time for the President to demonstrate that he's a true climate leader. Because while Clean Power Plans and incentives to bring solar power to low-wealth/communities of color are great steps, they'll be a drop in the bucket if Keystone, arctic drilling and other climate-killing projects are approved. Obama must understand that climate leaders need to do more than laud the Pope's climate encyclical: They need to take action to keep two-thirds of proven fossil fuel reserves underground.
