Encourage your governor to stand up for bees. Decision-makers read their local papers, so please write a letter to the editor of a newspaper in your state using the tool we've provided below.

Writing a letter to the editor is easy!

Your personal words matter most. One personalized letter explaining your individual perspective, experience and knowledge is worth more than 100 duplicate letters.
Your letter can (and should) be brief. Most newspapers will accept letters up to 150 words in length.
Your letter shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes. We've provided some copy points to help get you thinking. You can submit through your local paper's website, or use the tool at the bottom of this page.

Domestic honeybee hives have dropped from 6 million colonies in the 1940s to about 2.5 million today.

The death of honeybee colonies continues to rise. Last winter, U.S. beekeepers lost nearly 40 percent of their colonies -- the worst reported winter hive loss on record.

Neonicotinoids -- or neonics -- are a leading suspect in colony collapse disorder. These highly toxic pesticides poison bees' nervous systems and impact their ability to learn, reproduce and fight infections.

Neonics are between 5,000 and 10,000 times more toxic to bees than DDT.

The most effective way to curb the threat of bee-killing neonics is, quite simply, to limit their use.

Our state should follow the lead of Connecticut, Maryland and Vermont and enact a ban on the consumer sale of neonics.
