It's been a few days since the last bomb train accident. Thankfully nothing else has exploded in the last few days as a result of Big Oil's reletless pursuit of climate-killing tar sands and bakken oil.

But as an increasing number of towns have noticed, it's only a matter of time until the next accident. Recent articles have popped up in Los Angeles, Chicago and dozens of other cities questioning the wisdom of shipping volatile, explosive, oil products by rail.

So far, the only one not getting the message seems to be President Obama

Transportation of crude oil by trains is dangerous for our planet, and public safety. In the last few months, there have been more spills than in the previous four decades combined.

The White House is supposed to be considering better safety rules. But they're dragging their feet and new rules are months overdue. Even Canada has acted faster!

Most of the accidents have occurred with trains that were going below the speed limit and using the "safest" cars available. Even if some more safety changes are made, it's only a matter of time before one of these bomb trains goes off in our town.

It's time for local and federal law makers to get out of the pocket of Big Oil, and demand an immediate moratorium on the dangerous practice of transporting crude oil by rail.

The oil transported in these trains is not your grandparent's oil. It's tar sands oil from Canada that contains extra chemicals to dilute it. Or it's fracked crude from the Bakken - which is more likely to explode.
